There's a common misunderstanding about American Muscle. It was never created for racing.Italian flatplane V8's are for racing; Big, torquey american crossplanes are for towing your 3 cough living room across state.The smaller European cars are build for city's; much cornering plus many stop&go's. This is a better basis for racers, while Corvettes are based on a heritage of big comfy boats.

Maserati had such beautiful DOHC straight-sixes until well into the 1970s (up to 4.5 litres in the last Mistral GT's)...why did they ever try to get away from them?
