No, look it up. They did come with stock v8s. From 1973-1976 2591 3.5 ltr (3946cc) v8s were made.

The V8 was offered for a short time only. Stock was the B series 1798cc 4cyl, but after the demise of the MGC which utilised the Jensen Healey 3000cc straight six, a company in UK - Costello engineering offered an upgrade. British Leyland begrudgingly let MG attempt their version from the parts bin. It wasn't as brutal as Ken Costello's but nonetheless, a beautiful Rover V8 unit. The bulkheads of all '73 an onwards B's were designed to take V8's stock. Additions were upgraded diff/brakes/shocks.

There was no V8 version. The car was originally made for use with a V8 but the company never went through with it. All V8 MGBs are conversions, and the cars run even better than they did with the I4.
